Lulworth Cove

Lulworth Cove is a beautiful place to go - and the geology is superb too. The cliffs around the bay show exposures of rocks from the late Jurassic through to the Cretaceous chalk. Shelly limestones from the Purbeck series can be found on the beach. At Stair Hole (only 200m from the car park) you can see dramatic folded rocks - the "Lulworth Crumple". Walking a short distance from the cove you can visit the Fossil Forest, where you can find fossil salt crystals as well as fossil trees. Walking a little further (in the opposite direction to the Fossil Forest) will take you to the stunning roch arch of Durdle Door.

The slide show may take a while to get going - depending on the speed of your connection.
