Site History ...

I can't imagine that this is of any interest to anyone other than me - I find that it helps me to keep track of what changes I have / have not made. You may find it useful for checking what has changed recently if it is a long time since you surfed the site.

23rd Aug 06: Added Girth's last page and updated home page.
12th Aug 06: Updated Events page.
4th May 06: Added Sophie pics for Jan-Apr, updated Events page and updated home page.
27th Apr 06: Added RAH's recipes for Brackcurrant Brule, Fruit Fool and Raspberry Mess.
24th Apr 06: Added a Goings On page for the POBE's 60th birthday and updated the events page with the next crop of birthdays.
15th Mar 06: Added Jim's Savoury Chelsea Bun recipe, and corrected the carrot cake recipe. Added a Goings On page for the Coppicing Fest in February, added Tanya's birthday to the Events Page plus updated it to the Home Page date checker. Put a note about the Coppicing Fest page on the Home Page.
13th Jan 06: Updated Sophie's pages with some pictures from before Christmas.
18th Dec 05: The "Goings On" pages for the Christmas Walk have been posted (only 1 day after the event!). Still no update to Sophie's pages though - but I did add a page with pdf copies of her calendars (past and present).
1st Dec 05: The "Goings On" pages for Pewter's retirement, R&D's housewarming and Bonfire Night have content added at last! The Home page has been updated to alert people to this fact. All I need is to update Sophie's pages and the wesite will be up to date for once! (before all of the Christmas events overtake me again).
9th Nov 05: Added "Goings On" pages for Pewter's retirement, R&D's housewarming and Bonfire Night (but no content on them yet). Changed "Uncooked Chocolate Bars" recipe to "Cloud 9 Biscuits" and added RAH's vegetable soup recipe.
7th Nov 05: Updated the Events page and added a page with Girth's new ode from Bonfire Night.
11th Sept 05: Over the last couple of weeks Sophie's pages have been brought up to date, with the addition of pages for her birthday and beyond. Also, a page for the mid summer fest (in the rain) has been added to the "goings on" pages. Finally the home page has been updated to reflect both these changes, and the fact that more up to date material can be found on the message board and our Flickr pages.
27th May 05: Changed the right hand column navigation on Sophie's pages to be the same as Girth's pages and Goings On. Made the thumbnail pictures on the Home page into hyperlinks.
24th May 05: Minor addition to the "Free Stuff" computer page to include information about Password Safe.
22nd May 05: Added a page with some pictures from the May fest to the Goings On pages. Following a comment from Girth the navigation in the right hand column for Girth's pages and the Goings On pages has been changed so that you can see a list of all of the pages in the section, rather than just "previous - next" which made it difficult to find a particular page quickly.
16th May 05: Brought the Events page up to date by deleting the weekend's events. Added Girth's snakecatching ode to Girth's pages together with Pewter's picture of the snake that he had posted on Flickr.
5th May 05: XHTML validation is complete to XHTML Transitional. The only page that is not valid XHTML Transitional is the one the contains the messageboard frames - because I want the edges of the frames to be invisible, and that is not supported by the standard. Also added a new Goings On page with pictures supplied by Ann and Bob from the Reading Beerfest and Prague November 2004 added to the Travel page.
3rd May 05: The reshuffle described on the 29th has been completed and uploaded (but the XHTML validation is still not complete). A new page on free computer stuff (information / software) has been added, and three new pictures have been added to Sophie's page. The home page has also been updated to reflect these changes.
29th April 05: It's well over a month since I have done anything to the site - I've just been too busy with Sophie, work, holiday, and trying to sell the house. I've decided to recognise that the site will never be as big as I had made plans for - this is both due to lack of my time to create content, and very little content being supplied by anyone else. Everyone has the same pressures on their time! So, I have carried out a pruning of the site to remove some of the dead areas that will never fill up, and at the same time reorganised the menu to make what is there more accessible. On the technical side - I have started to move the mark up language that I use over to XHTML, though there is still a lot of validation and correction to do yet.
26th March 05: A couple more pics added to Sophie's pages, the events page updated to remove the March fest, and pics from the March Curry Fest added to the Goings On page. The old Goings On page (Christmas Walk) archived.
19th February 05: A couple of new pics added to Sophie's pages, and the events page updated with recently confirmed dates for March and May fests.
6th February 05: Updated Sophie's pages - added a pic and updated the graphs.
20th January 05: Updated the events page with events through to May.
3rd January 05: Added a recipe for playdough to the recipe page.
1st January 05: Lots of updates - posted the Christmas walk to the Goings On page, and archived the Bonfire Night stuf that was there; Added some pictures to Sophie's 12-18 month page from her visits to family over the holiday; Added a new page for Sophie's Christmas pictures; Added a new page for the next Sophie pics (this page is currently empty).
8th December 04: Posted the text from Mr Oboe's 1998 Israel travelogue.
7th December 04: Fixed the damage that I did to the front page.
6th December 04: Added a page about bouldering, with a slideshow of pics from the trip to the Cuttings Boulderfield at the weekend.
5th December 04: Added a folder and link to the climbing page for sharing pics.
2nd December 04: Removed the note about the message board being down from the front page, and updated the events page.
1st December 04: An update was long overdue - lots of changes to report: Mr Oboe's Israel travelogue has been broken up into smaller chunks; All of the recipes that I have been sent have been added to the Recipe Page; Sophie's Page has been updated with photos for October and November; and the Goings On Page has been updated with Bonfire Night pics, and the end of summer fest moved to it's own page.
2nd November 04: Posted the text from Mr Oboe's Israel travelogue.
23rd October 04: Some pictures added to Mr Oboe's Prague travelogues (nicked from the Prague information service web site and Angus McIntyre's Petra Site).

10th October 04: Corny surfing Sophie pic added to Sophie's page, and added the source of "JavaScript vault" to the Credits page.

3rd October 04: Having just baked some very tasty biscuits, we decided to share the recipe for Oat Biscuits with everyone.
27th September 04: A long time since anything was added, so I've been busy. Events has been updated, new Sophie pics added and the September fest pics put on the "Goings On" page. Also - the "Pastimes" section has been created with the addition of pages on climbing and geology/fossil hunting.
7th September 04: At last I have updated the Credits page to recognise all of the places I got help from in building this new version of the web site. Also scribbles a few words on the "Why fishslapping" page - seeing as I put it there from the start. Whilst gathering the links for the Credits I can across the solution to a problem that had been puzzling me - there was often a delay in applying the CSS to the pages, and an unformatted page would appear for a while. Check BlueRobot's page about Flash of Unstyled Content (FOUC) for the details - yet another IE bug. Also updated Sophie's page with a new picture and most recent weight measurement.
5th September 04: I spoke too soon about not needing to make any more "structural" changes - I installed Mozilla Firefox, and discovered that the web site did not look so good in this browser (I has previously only looked at the site in IE6). So I have just changed every page so that they display correctly in both browsers (thank goodness for NoteTab's find and replace across all documents). I suppose that I ought to check the display in Opera too...
30th August 04: Started to post some pages in the "Food" section - a few recipes so far. New Sophie pic added too.
27th August 04: Just finished changing all of the menus to use better css together with html lists to get rid of the last tables in my design. This has reduced file sizes, which should mean faster loading pages. Hopefully this is the last of the major "structural" changes that cause me lots of work, but add no content for the users to see!
23rd August 04: Added Girth's rendition of Bowie's "Life on Mars" to Girth's pages. Girth had previously posted this on the message board.
22nd August 04: Finished re-formatting Sophie's pages, and added new material - pictures from Sophie's second birthday added to the birthday page, and a new page of post birthday pics added. Put Girth's recipe and fest song back up on the site.
20th August 04: Started stripping the old table formatting out of the old content. Credits are done and Sophie's pages are nearly there (they are now valid html). I have started to find out all about the bugs in the way IE6 uses style sheets (lost some floating elements behind my background for a while, had to hack the css to fix them - see credits for links to the sites that showed me how). Decided not to try to get everything to validate as "strict" HTML 4.01, and go for "transitional" instead because I find that I still need to use "target" on my links.
19th August 04: Added the content from most of the old Sophie pages into the new web format. The content has been just dumped in, so it will not be valid and does not look so good. Also it is all still in tables.
18th August 04: Applied the half dozen changes that resulted from getting the pages to pass the W3 Org validation yesterday to the rest of the site so far. Created extra blank pages so that there should not be any more dead links
17th August 04: The new web site is up and running. Only the Home Page, Message Board, Events and History pages so far. Managed to get the home page and the main css to pass the W3 Org validation test!
24th July 04: Added a page to share Sophie's Bithday celebrations with everyone (and remind you of the wet BBQ). Also updated Sophie's weight and height graphs on Sophie's Page.
13th July 04: A quick update to Sophie's Page to add pictures of her on holiday in Weymouth, and add a link to the video of her walking (same clip as posted 10th July). Also updated Sophie's weight and height graphs.
11th July 04: Until yesterday the family web pages existed as two identical copies on different web servers, with "fishslapping.org.uk" set up to direct you to the new one (hosted by plus.net). I have just deleted all of the material off the old server (virgin.net) and left a page telling people to use fishslapping.org.uk
10th July 04: Added a zipped up video clip of Sophie Walking and and provided a link to it from the Message Board. Hope to add more tomorrow ...

18th Aug 03 (uploaded 21st Aug 03): I've been out nicking ideas from other people's sites again - so I thought that it was time I've gave all those people some credit. I put a link to this on the Home Page, together with some scrolling text that I had aquired. Also playing around I changed the family fests page so that the pictures appear as a slideshow. Let me know if this fancy new stuff does not work for you - I have the neccesary plug-in downloaded onto disk so that you can install it without waiting hours for it to download. I've also played around with the general page widths again.
14th Aug 03: Lots of changes, mainly a new logo (I should work in Marketing!). New in Links is a source of cheap inkjet cartridges - they work for me! The Sophie pics slideshow has been removed to save space. Otherwise, as you can see the site has been "splattered" with an ink-blot logo to go with the lined paper background. I've also played around with the page widths to try and make the pages more uniform in layout - if I've done it properly you won't notice it, because the pages will look "right". Comments please! Also anyone with ideas for pages, logos or any sort of content for the site - just let me know.
10th Aug 03: Pics from visit Sophie day added. Removed visit Sophie day from Events.
7th Aug 03: Sophie preparing for Saturday, pic added.
5th Aug 03: A couple more Sophie pics added. Removed Tim's birthday from Events, because it is today! Happy Birthday Tim. I've also removed the reminder about Tim's birthday, and that ghastly photo of Tim, from the Home Page. Updated text on Bazzaware link in Links.
3rd Aug 03: Lots of updates because Sophie woke me up early (5am, but I had slept pretty solidly through the rest of the night so I can't complain). First the is a page about the animals that attacked Sophie with a stone, then there is a page about family fests and a page for Girth's family fest song. Lastly I've made some updates to the Home Page.
1st Aug 03: Yet more Sophie pics added, including one of all three of us, as requested by Girth the Great.
29th July 03: A new page of pictures added with a downloadable picture slideshow (12 slides, 1MB), and the original page captioned as 1st 48hrs. Events page updated to remove Sophie's due date and change references to Malcolm over to Sophie!

11th July 03: In response to posts on the message board I've added to Events a date for the Bonfire Night fest, Caroline's Birthday and the suggested end of summer fest on the weekend of the 10K run. Added a link to a site about Don McLean's American Pie. Added script to Events, Latest and Links to make the background image stay still whilst the text scolls over it.
8th July 03: Fixed problem with some Pics not loading due to JPG extension instead of jpg. Added links to SIBL and Liss Band. Removed Colin's UnBirthday from Events, added Tim's and Rosemary's Birthdays.
5th July 03: All graphics optimised for faster loading. Message board added. Some Wedding pics posted.
